ENGLISHThe students explored yet another piece of non-fiction about volcanoes (Chapter- Fire Beneath our Feet).They loved sharing their previous knowledge about the topic and researched further to gather Universe more facts. They took the initiative to present illustrations, models and experiments about the volcanoes. Interesting class discussion and individual reading enabled them to decipher some amazing facts about volcanoes. As part of the chapter, they learnt to write the summary of the text. They also attempted to write the summary of the chapter with the help of notes in the workbook. In grammar, students learnt about the types of sentences in brief and Subject Predicate in detail. Social Science The importance of satellite in daily life was shared with students. Students also enhanced their knowledge about the different astronauts who study about space. Republic day being in January, students gained knowledge about the national symbols of India, national anthem and about our national flag. Students were also understood our Constitution, its guiding principles and about Fundamental rights of the citizens and their fundamental duties. MathStudents continued their learning of Area and Perimeter. As a next topic, the introduction to Time started with the Prior knowledge. Students were divided into groups and were asked to discuss and share what they already know about time. This was later shared with everyone in class. Taking it forward from there, they learnt about the terms related to time and telling time through an online clock – Visnos clock. They also learnt how to calculate elapsed time and addition and subtraction of time SCIENCEGrade IV students learnt about the Solar system, explored various dwarf planets and important facts related to the Universe. They were engaged in the learning process through a Trivia Time video followed by exploration i.e. Research work. The students explained the phenomenon of rotation, revolution, the formation of day and night and seasons with the help of the facilitator. Later, the learning process was extended to the galaxies and constellations. They discussed their sun sign based on the position of constellations. Navras is the most important part of our life, so all the students enjoyed learning about all 9 emotions through two different choreographies ROBOTICSUNIT TOPIC: NUTRITION Activity 2: Essential Vitamins In this session, students explored Vitamin and its type. They also observed the function of vitamins in the human body and learnt the essentiality of various vitamins. Activity: They applied their knowledge of vitamins to suggest vitamin intake to the person in situations given to them in the form of a card through matching. ENGLISHIn sync with the theme of the month, Seasons & Festivals, the students learnt and discussed about how New Year is celebrated in different parts of the world while reading the chapter – ‘Let’s Celebrate’. It was also integrated with the topic of writing instructions which was done in the workbook and practiced in class. In grammar, the students learnt about modals through interesting activities. In writing, they dealt with the topic of diary entry and watched videos of few famous books written in the diary entry from. They discussed about the format of the same along with further practice. Students also enhanced their reading and comprehension reading through the texts of Hamlet and Taming of the Shrew. They were taken out to the field. They took a walk along the border to understand that perimeter is the sum of all sides added together. To understand the area is the complete portion inside the boundary, students had fun racing from one end to the other. They came back to class and wrote their reflection on the activity and what they have understood about area and perimeter. They also attempted sums to enhance their understanding of this concept. SCIENCEWith the onset of winter as the children laden themselves with layers of clothes, they could easily understand the need for clothes as per the changing season. They wrote about their favourite season, likings and dislikings along with illustrations in their note-books. They not only drew the smart-art cycle depicting the life cycle of cloth but also enacted the same. Role-play on seasons was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. They loved to ask each other (the family and friends) about their favourite season, collected the data, integrated with Mathematics and represented in the form of bar graphs. To understand the weaving of cloth, a coaster weaving activity using pastel sheet strips was also conducted in the class SOCIAL SCIENCEStudents understood the importance of water and its usage in our daily life and also imbibed the virtues of saving water to safeguard the environment. Students enhanced their knowledge about different sources of water and different ways in which water is provided to the people. They also learnt about the causes and effects of water pollution and different ways to prevent it. Students learnt about the dams, their advantages and disadvantages. They showcased their learning by doing – by marking important dams on the political map of India. Students’ pre-knowledge was tested regarding the weather, climate and seasons using probing and engaging questions This helped in engaging students into a class discussion which helped them to identify the difference between weather and climate. Students were introduced to terms like meteorology and climatology. To sensitize them towards the environment a video on human activities that causes climate change was shown. Students were introduced to the significance and importance of Festivals in our lives and how festivals help in social and cultural bonding. To know more about the culture and heritage of our country students were divided into the groups of three and each group made a travel brochure on a different state of India, where they searched about the food, festivals, clothes, languages, dance and historical monuments of that particular state ICTThe students continued practicing Scratch 2.0 during their computer lesson. They were introduced to the special features of Powerpoint. They learnt the importance of MS-Powerpoint for business, classroom, training, personal use etc. They understood the usage of different toolbars and prepared a PowerPoint presentation on Seasons and presented as a slide show DANCEAll Students learnt the basics of Indian classical (Kathak) and freestyle dance form. They learnt how to emote different gestures, posture through body language and facial expressions. They also learnt guru vandana, tatkaar , Hastak in kathak dance form. To learn about expressions they practised Navras- nine emotions of dance. For more understanding of rhythm, they learnt about teen taal (16beats)as all Kathak basics are on teen taal. Apart from that, they have learnt the choreography on Christmas song by the name “We Wish You A Merry Christmas(funk version)”. DRAMA Students learnt about sound, moment, appearance, body moments and voice modulation as per the character. Drama games viz. ‘My Name is Jack’, ‘The Creature’ and ‘The Splat’ helped students in improving their presence of mind. They did Role Play like ‘Let's go on the moon’ and speech rehearsal. Skit presented by them on ‘Joy of Giving’ in the class assembly was highly appreciated. ART AND POTTERYClay captivates a child’s interest for hours, and it has a calming effect too. LIFE SKILLSStudents made a booklet “Inside-out” and illustrated the same in a creative manner ‘Turn me upside down’. They learnt different strategies to divert their attention to lift their mood. Distraction is a surprisingly effective technique for changing our mood. When we realize that we have become upset, we shall choose to interrupt our negative mood by engaging in something that distracts us from what has upset us. ROBOTICSUNIT TOPIC: ELECTRICITY
Activity 4: Series and parallel In this session, students were explained about the type of circuits and their benefits. They studied about series and parallel circuit. To observe the difference between them they made two circuits by connecting the motor and led in both ways using a snap circuit kit. They concluded that in a series circuit the distribution of voltage and current are not equal whereas in parallel the distribution is the same and also understood how these circuits are used in real life. UNIT TOPIC: NUTRITION Activity 1: Nutrient Bar In this session, students explored the types of nutrients required in the human body to remain healthy and fit. They also identified the nutrients required for being healthy on a daily basis by designing a nutrient bar. ENGLISHIn the month of November, the students got familiar with yet another poetic read from the Literature Reader – The Battle of Blenheim. As a group, students critically discussed the poem and shared their thoughts through a JAM (Just a Minute) session. Besides working on the comprehension aspect, students learnt Irony as figurative language in context to the poem. After the recap of the Adverbs and its types, students learnt about Adverb Clauses and revised their knowledge of clauses too. They were introduced to Decimals through a class discussion ‘quick talk’ strategy. They also watched a video to understand the difference between whole number and decimals. They learnt about place value of decimals, fraction to decimal conversion and vice-versa, addition, subtraction and multiplication of decimals. As part of the Math Science and Visual art integration week, students understood that the subjects are not stand-alone, but transdisciplinary. A whole lot of activities were planned and the students participated with enthusiasm. The students of Grade 4 had their first Parent walk-in which was showcased as an exhibition based on the subject integration week, where the confident communicators shared their learning in these three subjects. ICTStudents progressed in Scratch 2.0 and learned how to set the Sprite position and its rotation style by using it in their codes. They also created short animation on moving star, night sky and space by using these components of Scratch. They also practiced several small programs given in the ‘lab session’ of the ‘Cyber Beans’ text book. DANCEThe students learnt the basics of Indian classical (Kathak), semi-classical and western dance form. An interesting ‘Ice Cube Activity’ was conducted in the class which helped the students to experience that ice melts on heating. The ice cube was passed on from roll no. 1 to the last and back to 1. It melted after reaching back to roll no. 1. The students compared the size and shape of the ice cube and concluded that body heat melted it and changed its state from solid to liquid. A molecule arrangement tray named ‘Matter Tray’ was made by the students showcasing arrangement of the molecules in solid, liquid and gas. They learnt about various properties of water like flowing, definite volume, indefinite shape etc. ‘The Waking Water’ activity was most adored by them. They presented an amazing showcase of Science, Arts and Maths integrated activities in their Parent walk-in. Water Cycle, Wonderful Water, Matter Matters and Simple Machines Galore were all centre of attraction and well-appreciated by the parents. SOCIAL SCIENCEStudents enhanced their understanding about the important role communication plays in development of a country. They learnt how media can help in grass root development of our country, they understood how farmers are adopting the best agricultural practices with the help of programs shown on the ‘Kisan Channel’. Students understood the meaning of environment and explored how human beings are polluting the environment. They studied about the cause and effect of pollution like the burning of agricultural stubble (paraali). Students also discussed the ways/measures to control pollution (land, air and water) and took a pledge to save environment. They also learnt about water and its importance for the survival of all living beings. The topic atmosphere and layers of atmosphere was covered and recapitulation of the same was done through an engaging quiz using the smart board. ART AND POTTERYThe students drew marine life. They drew ocean with corals at the bottom and aquatic animals and coloured their compositions with acrylic colours and pastels. ROBOTICSUNIT TOPIC: ELECTRICITY Activity 2: CLIP IT TOGETHER In this session, students were explained about the role of a switch in a circuit and its function. They learnt about conducting and insulating property of different materials by creating a switch in a circuit which could activate the light circuit. Activity 3: TOSS THE RING In this session, students were explained about safety measures need to be taken while working with electricity. The working of the open and closed circuits was demonstrated. They learnt that an electric circuit requires a complete loop of conducting materials through which electric energy can be transferred. They designed a ring toss game, specifically to focus on their ability to describe and identify open and closed circuits. DRAMAStudents learnt about sound, moment, appearance, body moments and voice modulation as per the character. Drama game ‘The Splat’ was introduced. Role plays helped them understand theatre in a better way. They did a role play of various characters like ‘Hello cave’, ‘The Shepherd and the Wolf’.
ENGLISHIn the month of October, students got familiar with the concept of recycling in the chapter - Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. The problem of generating tonnes of garbage and dumping triggered a discussion in the class. The students focused on understanding the details of informational text and attempted comprehension questions along with a Sentence Spellcheck. In an attempt to understand different genres, students also learnt about the elements of drama which was discussed in the chapter ‘The Chinese Play’. The text was in the form of a Playscript which the children thoroughly enjoyed. In Grammar, students worked on the concepts of Conjunctions, Preposition and Singular Plural. In writing, students tried their hand at writing their own short play. Hindiकक्षा चार के छात्रों को खिलौनों की अनोखी दुनिया की सैर करवाते हुए ‘लक्खू चाचा के खिलौने’ पाठ का पठन करवाया गया। छात्रों से चर्चा कराते हुए प्राचीन काल और आधुनिक काल के खिलौनों में अंतर स्पष्ट करवाया गया । पाठ के शब्द-अर्थ, प्रश्न-उत्तर और वाक्य-रचना करवाई गई। छात्रों से अपने साथियों , कक्षा और विद्यालय की विशेषता पूछते हुए विशेषण शब्दों का परिचय दिया गया । अलग- अलग वस्तुएँ दिखाते हुए विशेषण के भेदों का परिचय दिया गया। छात्रों की समझ की जाँच करने के लिए अभ्यास-कार्य करवाया गया । छात्रों में जानवरों के प्रति प्रेम और दया की भावना का विकास करने हेतु ‘सोन मछरिया’ कविता का वाचन करवाया गया। कविता में से पठित पदयांश करवाया गया ।छात्रों के लेखन कौशल में वृद्धि करने के लिए ‘अनुच्छेद लेखन’ करवाया गया जिससे छात्र अपने विचारों और भावों को प्रकट करने में सक्षम हो सकें । SCIENCEForce, Work and Energy Though there is no force more powerful than the determination to rise yet the students experienced different types of forces that exist in nature and learnt about them through various activities. ‘Tug of the War’, ‘Throw the ball’, ‘Catch if you can’, ‘Dunk the ball in the basket’ were the foremost attractions of them and were thoroughly enjoyed by the students. They experienced Gravitational force while throwing the ball upwards and concluded that all things in nature exert force on each other via the force of gravity. The amount of the pull depends upon the mass of the object. They felt the force of friction while playing ‘Tug of the War’, writing on note-book, erasing the board with a duster and many other hands-on activities. They enhanced their knowledge about the types of simple machines and their importance in daily life. They used recyclable and reused material to make models of simple machines viz pulley, inclined plane and lever. MATHStudents understood the Test of Divisibility of numbers and attempted to use the strategies learnt in a related worksheet. They were introduced to fraction through Jodo-Gyan kit quiz in class. Their prior-knowledge was assessed when the teacher called out a fraction and students had to assemble using the Jodo-Gyan kit. They studied the different types of fraction and learnt to identify them amongst the numbers listed. Adding and subtracting like fractions, conversions of mixed to improper fractions and vice-versa, fraction word problems were some of the things that the students are learning in this concept. SOCIAL SCIENCEPrevious knowledge of students was provoked by asking queries that helped them correlate transport with geographical landforms. This helped in engaging students through a class discussion which helped them to identify the different modes of transport used in different geographical landforms. Students learnt about the ‘National Highways’ and ‘Golden Quadrilateral’ in the class through a class discussion. Their pre-knowledge on the topic ‘Indian Rails’ and ‘Metro’ was tested by asking their experience of the journey through these modes of transport. In the class activity students learnt to make a ‘Boarding Pass’ in their notebook, they mentioned the date, time, arrival, departure, destination city etc. Students realised the importance of all the people who make commuting easy for us through interesting example. To enhance their research skills students were asked to research about famous ropeways used in our country (they were asked to research the place, distance covered, year of construction of the ropeway). Students were introduced to the meaning of ‘communication’ and its importance in our daily lives through a class discussion. They learnt to differentiate between personal communication and mass communication through examples involving newspaper, radio television, internet (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc) ROBOTICSUNIT TOPIC: ELECTRICITY Activity 1: LIGHT IT UP In this session, students explored energy and how can we use it, they also classified different types of energy in our surroundings. They also studied about the circuit and various components required to design a circuit by creating a prototype of a LED LANTERN: Appliances that lights up with electricity by designing a simple light circuit. Activity 2: CLIP IT TOGETHER In this session, students were explained about the role of a switch in a circuit and function of the switch. They also learnt conducting and insulating property of different materials by creating a switch in a circuit which can activate the light circuit. ICTThe students of grade 4 were introduced to Programming Language Scratch 2.0, which helped them understand how real world objects can be mapped into the virtual world using animation software. DANCEStudents of Grade 4 learnt basics of Kathak dance form. They learnt how to emote different gestures, posture through body language and facial expressions. They also learnt tatkaar (basic footwork), Hastak (basic hand-movements ) of kathak. Apart from that they have learnt the choreography on deepawali song “deepawali aayi re”. Few students from Grade 4 participated in the Inter-School Dance Drama competition held at DPS School sector 84, Gurugram on 17 th Oct 2019 and were adjudged 1 st amidst tough competition. LIFE SKILLSIn the month of October, students studied ‘emotions’ in detail. They made a booklet “Inside-out” which included 4 to 5 pages. Students learnt different emotions interlinked with each other. They also drew and coloured different emoji’s illustrating different emotions (page1 & 2). The Math club functions as a fun-based activity for the middle classes basically to eradicate their phobia for the subject in their formative years. It helps the middle school children to enjoy, appreciate and acquire a basic knowledge of the subject by organizing competitive group activities, puzzles. Through the club, to develop a positive attitude towards learning Mathematics, a myriad of activities was conducted in the club: · Puzzle time. · Fun with arithmetic operations · Number and operations puzzle · Vedic Math tricks for multiplication · Shape rotational patterns · Number series · Odd one out series · Number patterns · Shape counting in multi grouped figures VERBAL LINGUISTIC CLUBOratorical skills, extempore, retelling stories, etiquettes, poetry recitation were some of the activities that were done in the Verbal-Linguistic club in Term 1 Students were introduced to the techniques of oratorical skills. They were given age appropriate topics for impromptu speech. Students were introduced to various board games which acted as icebreakers for our young Suncitizens. They were given props and were asked to speak few lines on it. They were also shown a picture on the smart board and were asked to describe it in their own words. They gave their reflections on the ‘Teri Gram Visit and made a poster on Green India. Students tried to retell the stories that were already shared by the teachers. Students were introduced to the story building techniques with the help of Spin-a-yarn game. They were given story prompts for it. Students were introduced to various English talking books and were asked to read with proper fluency, expressions, articulation, pronunciation and voice modulation. Social skill / Etiquette : Students were also briefed about social manners & etiquettes through a role play. Students were asked to have short conversations on a given situation e.g restaurants, shopping mall etc. Poetry recitation : They learnt the skills of Choral Poem Recitation with the nuances of expression, pronunciation and clarity. ROBOTICS CLUBSTEAM Learning integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics, with key skills such as problem solving, strategic thinking and collaboration. Digital & Design Technologies aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to ensure that, individually and collaboratively, students develop confidence as critical users of technologies and designers and producers of designed solutions, and they design, create, manage and evaluate sustainable and innovative digital solutions. Keeping that in mind, our young scientists, engineers, mathematicians have collaborated with peers and learnt how to Design, Make and Learn. Some highlights of what the kids have learnt in the Robotics club are given below:
In sync with the ongoing theme of the month-‘Food’, the students integrated their knowledge about food with the grammar concept of adjectives. As a class activity, they brainstormed and listed adjectives related to it in groups and came up with a lot of new vocabulary. They also learnt about the different types of adjectives. They also learnt about ‘Conjunctions’ and its usage by attempting workbook exercises. In literature, the students discussed the biography of Robert Louis Stevenson. A video clip about the author enabled the visual and auditory learners to associate with it more strongly. They learnt about the elements of biography and wrote a biography of their peer. One of the author’s famous works was taken up through the chapter ‘Treasure Island’ where students could easily make connections. The vocabulary of both the chapters was discussed and students further wrote about the synonym, meaning, antonym and part of speech of few new words. The chapter ended with writing the book review of their favourite book after the discussion of story elements. Hindiकक्षा चार के छात्रों को अच्छी सेहत का महत्व समझाते हुए सेहत है अनमोल खजाना पाठ का पठन करवाया गया।पाठ के शब्द-अर्थ, प्रश्न-उत्तर और वाक्य-रचना करवाई गई। छात्रों से अच्छी सेहत के लिए जरूरी खान-पान की चीज़ों के चित्रों का कोलाज बनवाया गया । अपने भावों और विचारों को सही प्रकार से बोलने व लिखने के लिए विराम चिह्नों के महत्व को समझाया गया। विराम चिह्नों से पहचान करवाई गई। विराम चिह्नों के सही प्रयोग की जानकारी अभ्यास-कार्य द्वारा दी गई । छात्रों को राजस्थान पाठ का पठन करवाया गया। पाठ के माध्यम से छात्रों को राजस्थान की संस्कृति , खान-पान ,कला और ऐतिहासिक स्थलों की जानकारी दी गई। छात्रों को शुद्ध- अशुद्ध शब्दों और वाक्यों में करवाए गए जिससे छात्र सही वर्तनी का अभ्यास करते हुए लेखन में सुधार कर सकें । SCIENCEIn sync with the theme of the month ‘Food’, the students were involved in various activities to have in-depth clarity of the concepts. The students were shown videos related to effects of various types of foods. The same was followed by ‘Let’s Make Healthy Choices’ activity, wherein they preferred healthy items over unhealthy. They designed a ‘Healthy Birthday Party Menu’ for themselves. The students discussed various ways of using leftovers and explored more about food preservation. Their research on the same was presented meticulously in the form of a project on ‘Food Preservation’. Food chain enactment was also held in the class. The students made stick puppets, sashes, headgears and masks for the enactment. Their creativity knew no bounds. The students understood the importance of cleanliness and hygiene to prevent spreading of germs through ‘Sparkle Handshake’ activity. To commemorate ‘World Peace Day’ on Sep 21, a myriad of activities was organised in the class. They brainstormed on various topics like ‘How Peace Begins with Them’, ‘How Peace is related to Food’ and what all steps can lead to sustainable development goals like ‘People-Planet-Profit’ and ‘Zero Hunger’. The students made startling posters and wrote catchy slogans. They also pledged not to waste food. MATHStudents were divided into pairs and were given a Tic-Tac-Toe chit. They enjoyed playing this game with their peer and learnt what are multiples and factors. Their understanding of these two concepts were strengthened when the students wrote the factors and multiples of a given number. Finding factors of a number is easier if the students know when a number is divisible completely. To understand this, students learnt the “Test of Divisibility” where they learnt the rules and strategies to test and find out whether a number is divisible by a particular number. They also understood the types of numbers – whole numbers, prime and composite numbers. Towards the end they were assessed on this topic. S0CIAL SCIENCEStudents learnt about forests, resources obtained from forests through a class activity and created their own “Forest Dictionary”. They also learnt how climatic conditions play a vital role in upkeep of forests and how different trees grow in forests based on the climate of that place. This also made the students understand the importance of forests and to appreciate the natural resources that are available to us. Understanding of forests was done as a class research activity. Students were divided into 5 groups to start their research on a particular type of forest. They found about the location, climatic conditions, types of trees grown and their special features. Students presented their findings with their peers in class and were assessed on a rubric. The theme for the month of September was ‘Food’. They learned about the importance of food and were able to identify the various sources of food. They also learned about staple food and also co-related food and meals consumed on special occasions / festivals. Through a class discussion, students were introduced to the agriculture in India and the major crops grown in India. They learned about the Green Revolution and the steps taken under the green revolution initiative. They were able to differentiate between Small Scale and Large Scale Industries ROBOTICSAIR FOR FLYING –Maker Session Challenge : In this session, students were introduced with a problem statement with the help of videos and images Problem Statement : What kind of solution is possible to design and build a shock-absorbing system that will protect two “astronauts” when they land. In this challenge, they had followed following engineering design process. They: - designed and built a shock-absorbing system out of paper and straws; - attached their shock absorber to a cardboard platform; - improved their design after several testing result to get success in their mission. The main focus of maker session was to see what students can actually think of building, after learning the basic concepts of Aerodynamics force. ICTStudents learned to check each step of programming sequentially by the process of step-by-step thinking. They were introduced to MS PowerPoint. They prepared the presentation based on festivals and food by adding text, pictures, animation, transitions and word art to beautify their documents WESTERN MUSICIn the month of September the students learnt Name of the song: ‘’ One Love ” by (Bob marley) Instruments taught: Piano, Guitar Exercises done: C major scale in Low octave INDIAN MUSICIn the month of September students learnt Name of the song: ‘Ram Gun Gao’ bhajan, vaishnav janto , Durga astuiti. Instruments played: Combination of Harmonium, Tabla, Tanpura Exercises done: Vocal warm up with sargam. DANCEStudents learnt basics of Kathak dance form. They learnt how to emote different gestures, posture, mood through body language and facial expressions. They also learnt tatkaar (basic footwork), Hastak (basic hand-movements ) of kathak. Apart from that they have learnt the choreography on garba and dandiya folk “hey shubhaarambh” and dhooni dance “ya devi sarvbhuteshu” with live music for the special assembly performance on Dusshera. PHYSICAL EDUCATIONFOOTBALL, SWIMMING AND GYMNASTICS 1. Football - Understanding dribbling, trapping of football in group dribbling and shooting of football. 2. Swimming - Students are learning head up breathing and back floating. 3. Gymnastics - Students are learning cartwheel, handstand followed by forward roll, dive roll. DRAMAStudents learnt about sound , moment, appearance, body moments and voice modulation as per the character also introduces Drama games like as the Creature and i am jack. so that student understand more about Drama and also they did situational acting so they can break their hesitation, also did wonderful one act related to Ramayana ,students did silent acting on voice over it was very good experience for students and the they done beautifully in special assembly.
ENGLISH The chapter –‘Wildfire’ was integrated with the theme of the month –‘Plants’ to enhance the students’ awareness concerning wildfire impact on forests, homes and communities. This was followed by a discussion, gauging their previous knowledge about rainforests and wildfires. The interesting story of ‘Rescue from a wildfire’ led to the creative writing task of completing the story. Students practiced writing their own ending of a story as per different situations. During the Language, Sst and Performing arts integration week -19 th -23 rd August, they consolidated their learning of Story Creation through the team tasks where they incorporated all elements of a story structure. They created their own props like stick puppets to present their stories in the form of a role play. In Grammar, they built upon their knowledge of Tenses to learn something new like Present Perfect Tense. Hindi कक्षा चार के छात्रों को कक्षा-कक्ष की वस्तुएँ और सजीव प्राणियों के उदाहरण देते हुए लिंग और उसके भेदों से परिचय करवाया गया। महात्मा बुद्ध के बचपन की घटना से संबंधित पाठ राजकुमार सिद्धार्थ का पठन करवाया गया। उनके राजकुमार से गौतम बुद्ध बनने की यात्रा पर चर्चा की गई। छात्रों को एक और अनेक का ज्ञान कराते हुए वचन और भेदों का परिचय दिया गया। भारत के महान वैज्ञानिक चंद्रशेखर वेंकटरामन का जीवन-वृतांत पाठ-पठन के द्वारा करवाया गया जिससे छात्र उनकी खोजों और उपलब्धियों को जान सकें। १९ अगस्त से २३ अगस्त तक चलने वाले विषय एकीकरण भाषा सप्ताह के अंतर्गत छात्रों ने हिंदी कविता “जीवन की सीख” को संगीत अध्यापिका की सहायता से सुर में ढाल कर गीत के रूप में गाया । SCIENCE ‘Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature.’-with this philosophy in mind, following the theme of the month i.e. ‘Plants’, beginning with nature walk, the students did lot many activities. The students studied about the various parts of the plant through a nature walk followed by illustration of the parts of the plant in their note-books. The students made a project on leaves after exploring various types of the leaves in the school, society, park and even kitchen garden. To understand the role of stem in transportation, the students did hands-on-activity in the Science Lab followed by observation in the worksheet. How beautiful it is to see a seed growing into a tiny plant! The young Suncitizens grew various seeds in the Science Lab and observed them growing into saplings. The students observed the mounted slides of stomata in the Lab followed by illustration in their worksheets and note-books. Students collected information from their parents, friends and neighbours about how is left over food utilized followed by presentation in the class. The objective was to make them understand how left-over food is stored in various parts of the parts of the plant to be used by us. They inculcated the value of saving food by sharing various ways of using leftovers. Plants are indeed the greatest blessing for us. They are our lifelines. Not only they give us the living giving oxygen but also lot other things. They students worked in groups (Think-Pair-Share), jotted down the things we get from plants, discussed with their peer group and presented in the class. Their presentation for food chain was praise-worthy and was a learning for life. MATH Reinforcement of the number operations concept was done through mental math questions (written / oral), practice sums and word problems. Students challenged themselves by solving multi-step word problems in class. The culmination of this whole concept was done by students, in groups, creating a mathematical game using the four number operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). It was heartening to see the students creatively expressing their understanding of the four operations by creating a board game and flashcards. Students shared their project with their peers in class. They had fun challenging each other by playing games created by their friends. They were also assessed on the number operation concept through a class assessment. They were assessed on their project and were marked on a rubric. S0CIAL SCIENCE The prior knowledge of students was assessed on Southern Plateau through a class discussion. They also watched a video to know more about the same. They learnt about Malwa and Chota Nagpur Plateau while learning about ‘Central Highlands’. The life and culture of people of Southern Plateau states namely Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattishgarh were also discussed through a PowerPoint presentation. Students learnt about the language spoken, traditional clothes, important festivals, tourist destination etc. of these states. While learning about the ‘Coastal Plains and Marine Life’, students covered the Western and Eastern coastal states and they came to know about the life and culture in these coastal states. Students also understood how tourism can be a boon or curse in different areas through a debate: ‘Tourism is a boon for the desert region and a curse for many coastal areas’ To complement the learning of students, a poster making activity was done in class on the topic – ‘Save Marine Life’ While covering the ‘Plants’ theme, students were made aware about the forest resources & how the resources are affected by afforestation & deforestation. ART Students learnt how to draw the outline of India map during their art lessons. They also drew the national symbols – lotus, mango, peacock, and Indian Flag using pastel, acrylic, colour pencils. To complete their art work, they also wrote a slogan praising our mother land. POTTERY Students knowledge of the national symbols took them one step further to make clay models in their pottery lesson. They learnt how to make outline map of India out of slab cutting. They also enjoyed making a 3-D model of our national flower, Lotus. The students also made clay pen stands for all teachers to be gifted on Teacher’s Day. LIFE SKILLS In their Life Skill lessons, in sync with the theme of the month ‘Plants’, students learnt the importance and uses of plants, herbs and trees around us. They got one with nature, learnt about natural medicine (home remedies) that can be an alternative for common ailments like cough, cold, fever, nose bleed etc. They understood the importance of using natural home remedies as an alternative to taking medicines & tablets. In an extended session, students learnt about the significance of expressing their feelings. They learnt that to express oneself, it is important to understand the body language of the other person. They had fun time deciphering and comprehending what the other person feels through body language, by playing a game of ‘dumb charades’. ROBOTICS UNIT TOPIC: AIR FOR FLYING – Hand Glider In this session Students explored about different types Glider, the force acting on the Glider, the force of flight etc. They also understood the principles behind the working of a glider. After this session, they were able to relate the principle of gliding with gliding birds in the sky. ACTIVITY: To design and fly a Hand glider to explore how change in tail (elevator and rudder) position affects the flight of a glider for different directions. GYMNASTICS Agility, speed, coordination, balance, strength and endurance practices :
DRAMA Students learnt various forms of acting in the Drama lessons. They learnt how to modulate their voice as per the character they were playing and showcased their acting prowess during role plays done in class. In sync with the theme of the month ‘Plants’, they listened to various stories related to plants and trees and understood the importance of characters in the fables and emulated a few characters with appropriate voice modulation and expression. Students performed a One Act play on ‘Mangal Pandey’ for the Independence Day assembly which was well appreciated by one and all. During the Subject integration week, the students prepared and performed a MIME act which was a very new concept to the students. They learnt it in a very short span of time and performed well to the applause of the audience. INDIAN MUSIC Students are practicing their vocal warm up exercises through Sargam and singing in different patterns and different rhythm. Selected students for ‘Anveshan’ competition were practicing hard for the song created and composed by them “Rangeela Desh”. The winners of the Patriotic song competition, practiced their song and performed during the Independence day special assembly. During the Subject integration week, students also wrote a Hindi Rhyme related to plants in their Hindi lessons, and composed tune in their music lessons (Music – Hindi integration) Western Music In the month of August the students learnt ‘’Sing” by (Gary Barlow) Instruments taught: Piano, Guitar Exercises done: C major scale in Low octave ICT In the ICT lessons, students learnt about the advanced features of MS Word 2010 version. They used newspaper cuttings and marked/identified different shapes used in the written text. They understood about the various drawing tools and shape feature. They applied their understanding to design a pamphlet on ‘Conservation of Earth’ based on the topic done in their Social Studies lesson. They enhanced the appearance of the pamphlet by adding different borders and shadings. Towards the end of the lesson, students learnt how to boost the appearance of a document by adding the features of MS Word. TAEKWONDO Students are learning turning kick, front rising kick, middle block & punch, stretching and pushing kick. Students Enjoying Swimming Session
English A poetry and two literature pieces were taken up to begin with. The poem – ‘Foreign Lands’ was introduced through the Reader’s theatre, small group loud recitation. Students discussed the aspects of poetic devices, comprehension, prediction and vocabulary in small teams. They presented their understanding in a larger group. The background of the poet was also discussed. Students then consolidated their learning in the written form in their notebooks. Some extended follow up exercises were also taken up such as reading a similar poem in the book, finding the poetic devices and illustrating their own fairyland. This was followed by a fictional excerpt - Treasure Seekers – I & II to further consolidate it in written form. The topic of Adjectives was also introduced in grammar. Hindi कक्षा चार के छात्रों के ग्रीष्मावकाश का अनुभव साझा कराते हुए उनका स्वागत किया। छात्रों को कक्षा – कक्ष की वस्तुएँ दिखाते हुए संज्ञा और उसके भेदों का परिचय दिया गया । छात्रों को संज्ञा के स्थान पर आने वाले सर्वनाम शब्दों और उसके भेदों से परिचय कराया गया। छात्रों को गतिविधि कराते हुए विलोम शब्दों और पर्यायवाची शब्दों का परिचय दिया गया जिससे उनके शब्द- भंडार मे वृद्धि हुई । बाघ और हाथी पाठ के द्वारा वन्य जीवों के बारे में जानकारी दी गई जिससे छात्र वन्य जीवों के महत्व को समझ सकें और बाघों की कम होने की समस्या के प्रति जागरूक हो सकें । Math On joining back school, students revised the lessons already done and prepared for the Math unit test. A recap of all the concepts was done again to strengthen their understanding of Number Systems. As a prior knowledge assessment, students were grouped and were given set of key words that they had to sort according to the number operations. Students started practicing number operations sums and word problems using RUCSC method (‘Read', 'Understand', 'Choose', 'Solve', 'Answer' and 'Check’). Some students took up the challenge and attempted the challenge sums. Math-o-mania competition was also held and students were tested on their mathematical abilities. Science The month started with students begin their journey to understand more about animals by learning the meaning of various terms - reproduction, vertebrates, invertebrates, terrestrial, amphibians, aerial, aquatic, arboreal, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, scavengers, parasites, host, migration etc. They studied about the life cycle of butterfly and frog and observed the specimen of a tadpole and a caterpillar in Science Lab. They also observed the complete life cycle of silk moth. After the nature walk, they collected the data i.e. name of various living beings and sorted them into vertebrates and invertebrates through Think-Pair-Share activity. Their learning was boosted through a reflection form in the form of red, yellow and green zones, followed by peer teaching, where students clarified each other’s doubts. Social Science The session post the summer vacation started with the revision of States and their Capitals. While introducing the topic Northern Plains, students were divided into different groups to do their research work i.e. States of Northern Plains their capital, food, festival, language, traditional dress & dance. This group research work helped the students to work together in teams, listen to their peers, communicate clearly and enhance their social skills. To ensure that students understood about landscape of the Northern Plains and Northern Mountains, they attempted to mark the same on the political map of India. As a pre-cursor to chapter- The Great Indian Desert, a class activity was done where students were given sticky notes and their pre-knowledge about the desert was tested. They were asked to write what they knew about the location, climate or vegetation of the desert and post it on the chart. A mind map was then created to introduce the chapter- The Great Indian Desert. Art and Pottery Students made posters for ‘Save The Tiger’ campaign. They were taught steps drawing of animal figures and other natural elements like jungle and landscape. They used oil pastels to make their art work attractive. Indian Music Students practiced basic vocal warm up exercises to improve their singing. They started the class with सरगम in rhythm and understood about scale and important factors of rhythm and practice in classical music. They are practicing a song “ जाग रहे हम वीर जवान “ Western Music Students have practiced a beautiful song sung by (Gary Barlow) and learnt to sing with enthusiasm. They enjoyed learning how to play the guitar – both individually and as a group. During the lessons, students learnt the guitar pattern of the same song. Physical Education
ICT Students learnt about formatting in Microsoft Word 2010 which includes applying superscript and subscript in the document, applying shadow effects to the text. They also learned the page orientation settings, applying header and footer, applying column and column break to the document. This enabled them to prepare a formatted document for use or to print. Life Skills Students will be able to understand that their real friends don’t care what they look like. They like them because of who they are and not by looks. It’s not important to please everyone around us. Understanding and valuing their own self and being proud of themselves was the core learning in this month Life skill session. Students learn strategies to cope how to handle a situation when they are teased and learn to deal it wisely so that it doesn’t affect them negatively. As the theme of the month was animals this concept was thought through a problem faced by a tortoise in a zoo. This was followed by students writing their thoughts in a reflection sheet. Drama Students learnt the characteristics, different sounds of animals and their body movements. They took this understanding further when they portrayed the character of an animal in a small act related to “Save the Tiger”. Students are slowly gaining confidence while performing on stage. Robotics AIR FOR FLYING: In this session student had explored about different type of forces responsible for things to keep them airborne. They also studied about different form of energy and how energy transformation takes place during the time of flight. To understand things more deeply they made a rubber powered Rotocopter and tested it by increasing the thrust level through the number of winding of a rubber band and recorded the observation whether time of flight for all the thrust level is same or different. Here are few glimpse of kids while they are engaged in the activity: Glimpses of school activitiesEnglish In the English lesson , a variety of Punctuation Marks were introduced through a story. The emphasis was laid on the Apostrophe and its usage. Students were assessed on their prior knowledge of contractions and how it is used while writing. The class collaboratively generated a list of contractions and explored some new ones too. A recap of all the grammar concepts was done. Students also revised the topics for their Unit Test. Revision of all topics was done as a creative task where each group prepared a poster based on their understanding of the concepts done in class. The first round of the Spell Bee Wizard Competition was also held on 8th May '18 Mathematics Students strengthened their understanding of Number System- Indian and International Place Value System, comparing, odd / even, ordering numbers. Rounding off numbers proved to be a challenge for the students and they made an effort to understand through different strategies –( Rounding off poem & number line ). Students were given a choice to opt for any strategy to round off numbers to the nearest 10s, 100s, & 1000s. They were introduced to the concept of estimation of numbers by rounding off numbers. Students displayed their understanding of the number system concept and took a brief class test followed by peer assessment . Social Science In their Social Science lessons, a quiz was conducted on Indian states & capitals followed by research on neighbouring countries of India. Students learnt about Northern Mountains by watching a video on The Three Ranges of Himalayas. They did individual research to find out about life of the people inhabiting states of Himalayan Region ( Capital , language spoken , festivals and cuisine ) thus enhancing their research skill . Learning about Northern Plains was the next on their agenda. On the basis of class discussion, students understood about the different states, traditional attire , architecture and festivals of the Northern Plains and the Northern Mountains. They marked the major landforms of India and its neighbouring countries on the Physical Map of India. Science Students visited the Science Lab to understand the process of digestion through the models . Related videos added to their understanding of the body systems such as circulatory & excretory system. The process of excretion was conducted through an experiment. Students revised these Science concepts and undertook their Science unit test. As part of their project work, students were divided into groups and given topics related to Food – nutrient & food groups, balanced diet, food preservation, importance of exercise and tooth. Prior to starting the project work, students were taught the skill of research and presentation. Students used books and internet to research and find out information. This was later presented in the class. They were assessed on the basis of their team work, content of research and presentation skill and marked on rubric (an assessment tool). Hindi (कविता - जीवन की सीख) का सस्वर कवितापाठवाचन, कठिन शब्दार्थ-वाक्यप्रयोग, श्रुतलेखन और प्रश्नोत्तर आशय स्पष्टीकरण करते हुए पद्यांशावबोधन विधा सीखी। गतिविधि के रूप में कविता का छात्रों ने चित्रांकन कर स्वरचित काव्यपंक्तियों की रचना की। कविता के माध्यम से छात्रों ने प्रकृति के विभिन्न उपादानों जैसे - धरती, सूरज, चाँद, पेड़, पौधे और फूलों के महत्व पर चर्चा की। छात्रों को जीवन मूल्यों की सीख जीवन में इनका का महत्व कविता के माध्यम से स्पष्ट किया गया ।पाठ व कविता के स्पष्टीकरण के साथ गद्यांशावबोधन व पद्यांशावबोधन सिखाया । विशेषतः मातृदिवस के अवसर पर विभिन्न गतिविधियों और प्रस्तुतियों के माध्यम से छात्रों ने माँ की जीवन में भूमिका पर स्वरचित पोस्टर बनाकर अपनी माँ के विषय में अपनी भावनाएं विचार व्यक्त किए। Music Indian Music Students practiced राग यमन and सरगम with rhythm. This help them understand the scale and important factors of rhythm in classical music. They also practiced a song 'मां की ममता' for Mother’s day. It’s a raag based classical song. Students enjoying learning the nuances of Indian music. Western Music Students learnt and practiced the song - ‘Sing with full of fun’ originally sung by Gary Barlow. They are enjoying learning the western music instrumental - drums and guitar too. Physical Education Students practiced SQUASH and learnt the following skills:
Art In Art lessons, children made posters expressing their love for their mothers. They drew the composition on their art files using the elements like the shape of heart, flowers and their own message for their beloved mothers and finally they coloured the composition with oil pastels. ICT In ICT the students learned several features and their customization in Windows 7. They did various activities to relate and understand the efficiency of computers as compare to human beings. They made comparisons between their personal desks with Windows desktop. They explored the shortcut menu options besides steps of creating files and folders etc. in Windows. Life Skills This week was related to last workshop taken “Have you filled your bucket today?” Counsellor placed each child’s buckets on soft board along with some random acts of kindness written on slip and students filled each other’s bucket by letting their friends know what act of kindness other person has. Students where enthusiastic to see their buckets filled. Drama Students learnt the different forms of drama including dialogue delivery and voice modulation. They also acted to a given situation i.e. how someone feels when they are not able to find their mother anywhere.The emotions generated by students brought tears to the eyes of the educators. Dance
The children learnt the fundamental steps of Kuchipudi through a small choreographic piece. The song of the piece was dedicated to Lord Ganesha. English Students completed Unit – The Great Wall of China (Nelson English) with focus on reading, comprehension, glossary, new vocabulary and writing skills. The exercises in the book and the notebook strengthened the concepts. In writing, students learnt Factual Writing –its format, examples and practice exercises. Maths During Math lessons, students were assessed on their prior knowledge of Place Value through a strategy “Eye-to-Eye” ”Knee-to-Knee”. Taking cue from the students knowledge the lesson was taken further to introduce them to the concept of Place value. They understood the differences between the Place Value and Place by writing the numbers in expanded, word and standard form. Odd/Even, Comparing, Ordering, forming of biggest and smallest numbers from a set of numbers given also formed part of their understanding of the Number systems. They were introduced to Indian and International number system and finding their equivalent numbers, rounding off and estimation of numbers. The concept of 2D and 3D shapes was done as a project. Students took their understanding of shapes to create wonderful objects which was displayed in the class. Social Science During Social Science lessons on safety rules students were made to understand and appreciate the importance of safety rules at different place through engaging video presentations and discussions in the class. Safety rules to be followed at home, road and school were discussed in detail and students were given tasks to be done from home on the same. Also while studying the 'Landforms of the World' students learnt about the different landforms of the world like mountains, plateau, deserts etc. through flip teaching. Students were first explained about the landforms and then few of the students were given a task to prepare the topics and talk about the same to the class the next day. Science In Science Students watched Visual of Circulatory system, Digestive system and Excretory system. They visited the science lab and observed the models. Students drew the organ systems which is also part of understanding the parts of the organ. Their understanding were further strengthened by watching related videos and peer teaching. Hindi स्वपरिचय प्राप्त कर छात्रों को विद्यालय के नियमों और अनुशासनात्मक गुणों से अवगत कराया गया।राष्ट्रगान गायन का महत्व समझाकर लेखनकार्य कराया गया। किसी भी कार्य को करने का सही ढंग सीखाना अनिवार्य है अतः लेखनकार्य के लिए सिखााया गया। क्योंकि पठन लेखन तो सभी छात्र करते है किंतु सही तरीके अपनाकर कार्य करने वालों का कार्य ही सफलता का मार्ग प्रशस्त करता है। 1 से 10 तक की हिंदी गिनती के संख्यांकों और संख्याशब्दों का उच्चारण कराते हुए समझाकर लेखनकार्य कराया गया। वर्णवृक्ष गतिविधि के द्वारा वर्णमाला के स्वरवर्णों को भेदज्ञानपूर्वक कराया गया। व्यंजनवर्णों का वर्गपरिचय ध्वनितंत्र के उच्चारणपूर्वक कराया गया। द्वित्व व्यंजन पंचमाक्षर वर्णविच्छेद संयुक्ताक्षर वर्णविच्छेद और रेफपदेन वर्णविच्छेद कराते हुए सूत्र समीक्षापूर्वक समझाया गया।सीखो शिष्टाचार पाठ का पठन वाचन कठिनशब्द उच्चारण शब्दार्थ वाक्यप्रयोग चर्चा प्रश्नोत्तर आदि कराते हुए गद्यांशावबोध कार्य सिखाया गया। कक्षा परीक्षा के माध्यम से श्रुतलेख और पुनरावृति कराते हुए पाठ स्पष्ट कराया गया। Music Where on one hand, while learning 'Indian Music' students started there vocal practices in raag yaman and some sargam with rhythm so they can understand about scale and important factor of rhythm in classical music. On the other hand during their 'Western Music' sessions students did the scale practice with very common time signature, students also practiced with their finger counting and learned beautiful song: sing (Gary Barlow) Physical Education During Physical Education sessions, students were made aware about the history of Squash and rules of the game. They also learnt about the footwork on the court that included the forehand and the backhand. The session also included the different ways of Gripping of racket ( V grip or shake hand grip) and Forehand drive and lob. Art In Art, students were introduced to art materials and techniques of using them. Students also learnt to draw human face profile and basic human anatomy. Children made drawing on earth day to integrate with their academic lesson. Life Skills School Counsellor built rapport with students. Students understood the counselor is there to help / guide the students resolve conflicts, time management, behavioural issues among other things. Under the theme 'Me and Myself' students worked on creating positive self-image. A case study was present to them using smart board and students had a group discussion on the same. Students learnt self-management skills as well. Mindfulness and practicing different types of technique helped them to learn relaxation, and deal anxiety, fear and anger. Workshop on 'Have You Filled a Bucket Today?', 'A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids' was been conducted. It was taken from a beautiful book by - Carol McCloud, children are encouraged to express daily kindness and love. The author uses the metaphor of every person being born with an invisible bucket, which represents their emotional health (or happiness quotient). By saying kind words to others, not only will you fill their buckets, but you will fill your own. Students develop the sense of gratitude towards everyone around them.
