The students made a project on leaves after exploring various types of the leaves in the school, society, park and even kitchen garden. To understand the role of stem in transportation, the students did hands-on-activity in the Science Lab followed by observation in the worksheet. How beautiful it is to see a seed growing into a tiny plant! The young Suncitizens grew various seeds in the Science Lab and observed them growing into saplings. The students observed the mounted slides of stomata in the Lab followed by illustration in their worksheets and note-books. Students collected information from their parents, friends and neighbours about how is left over food utilized followed by presentation in the class. Their presentation for food chain was praise-worthy and was a learning for life. MATH Reinforcement of the number operations concept was done through mental math questions (written / oral), practice sums and word problems. Students challenged themselves by solving multi-step word problems in class. The culmination of this whole concept was done by students, in groups, creating a mathematical game using the four number operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). It was heartening to see the students creatively expressing their understanding of the four operations by creating a board game and flashcards. Students shared their project with their peers in class. They had fun challenging each other by playing games created by their friends. They were also assessed on the number operation concept through a class assessment. They were assessed on their project and were marked on a rubric. S0CIAL SCIENCE The prior knowledge of students was assessed on Southern Plateau through a class discussion. They also watched a video to know more about the same. They learnt about Malwa and Chota Nagpur Plateau while learning about ‘Central Highlands’. To complete their art work, they also wrote a slogan praising our mother land. POTTERY Students knowledge of the national symbols took them one step further to make clay models in their pottery lesson. They learnt how to make outline map of India out of slab cutting. They also enjoyed making a 3-D model of our national flower, Lotus. The students also made clay pen stands for all teachers to be gifted on Teacher’s Day. LIFE SKILLS In their Life Skill lessons, in sync with the theme of the month ‘Plants’, students learnt the importance and uses of plants, herbs and trees around us. They got one with nature, learnt about natural medicine (home remedies) that can be an alternative for common ailments like cough, cold, fever, nose bleed etc. They understood the importance of using natural home remedies as an alternative to taking medicines & tablets. In an extended session, students learnt about the significance of expressing their feelings. They learnt that to express oneself, it is important to understand the body language of the other person. They had fun time deciphering and comprehending what the other person feels through body language, by playing a game of ‘dumb charades’. ROBOTICS UNIT TOPIC: AIR FOR FLYING – Hand Glider In this session Students explored about different types Glider, the force acting on the Glider, the force of flight etc. They also understood the principles behind the working of a glider. After this session, they were able to relate the principle of gliding with gliding birds in the sky. ACTIVITY: To design and fly a Hand glider to explore how change in tail (elevator and rudder) position affects the flight of a glider for different directions. GYMNASTICS Agility, speed, coordination, balance, strength and endurance practices :
DRAMA Students learnt various forms of acting in the Drama lessons. They learnt how to modulate their voice as per the character they were playing and showcased their acting prowess during role plays done in class. In sync with the theme of the month ‘Plants’, they listened to various stories related to plants and trees and understood the importance of characters in the fables and emulated a few characters with appropriate voice modulation and expression. Students performed a One Act play on ‘Mangal Pandey’ for the Independence Day assembly which was well appreciated by one and all.
